FINAL REPORT OF GROUP A AND B IN THE 2014 WORLDCUP IN BRAZIL

The final set of matches for the Group A and B of the Brazil 2014 Worldcup were played yesterday. The teams heading to the round-of-16 from group B had already been decided even before they played each other in their final group stage clash. Netherlands saw themselves on top of the group (Group B) after playing Chile two (2) to nil in their final group stage clash. Netherlands sits on top of the group with all nine points intact after playing all three group stage matches without recording a defeat. Chile comes closely behind Six (6) points after beating defending champions, Spain, two (2) to nil and playing Australia Three (3) to One (1) in their first group stage match. Both Spain and Australia had already been denied the opportunity to go to the round-of-16 even before they played each other in their final match of the 2014 world cup. Spain went home gloriously after playing their already eliminated counterparts Australia 3-0.

Group A’s final matches were more interesting, with the host country Brazil and Mexico heading to the round of 16 after all the drama. Brazil tops the group with goal difference.

With 36 matches played, only the Super Eagles goal keeper Vincent Enyema is yet to concede a goal. Let’s wait and see if he can make a good history, if he will be able to keep a clean sheet in their encounter with the Argentines on Wednesday.
